Dr. John P. Cole, MD has been an innovator in hair restoration surgery since 1990, advancing techniques such as follicular unit transplantation and microscopic dissection. In 1998, he became a diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), later serving as a board director and member of the examination committee.
As a respected educator, Dr. Cole chaired numerous programs and conferences for the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) and led the first FUE (follicular unit extraction) conference in 2003. He played a pivotal role in globalizing FUE, establishing the first dedicated clinics in Europe and later in Seoul, South Korea, by 2007. His innovations—including the complex motion profile device and several widely replicated punch designs—are distributed worldwide through his company, Cole Instruments.
Since 2007, Dr. Cole has also been a recognized authority in regenerative medicine. He developed advanced PRP protocols and introduced topical finasteride to the U.S. market. His work includes the use of mesenchymal stem cells and other advanced therapies for various forms of alopecia. In recognition of his impact, he received the ISHRS Gold Follicle Award in 2013 and a Lifetime Achievement Award from FUE Europe in 2019.
A prolific speaker and author, Dr. Cole regularly presents at international conferences and has published extensively in scientific literature. He practices in both Atlanta, GA, and New York, NY, and is currently editing a landmark textbook on the latest advances in the field. With seven patents to his name, he continues to be a leading voice in FUE and regenerative hair restoration as vice president of AIRMES.
